Navicular

Os naviculare

The navicular is a boat-shaped bone on the inner side of the midfoot, sitting between the talus behind it and the three small cuneiform bones in front. It is the summit of the inner arch, and a prominence on its inner side is where the tibialis posterior tendon inserts — the main muscular support holding that arch up. Because it sits at the top of the arch, it is the bone that drops when the arch flattens.
