3rd metatarsal

In Review

A typical metatarsal, the middle of the five, articulating behind with the lateral cuneiform and along its sides with the second and fourth. Like all of them it has a base, a shaft that is slightly convex on top and concave underneath, and a rounded head bearing weight at the ball of the foot. The dorsal and plantar interossei arise from its shaft along with those of its neighbours, filling the spaces between the bones.
