Lateral plantar nerve

Nervus plantaris lateralis

The smaller terminal branch of the tibial nerve, and the ulnar nerve of the foot: it supplies nearly every intrinsic muscle the medial plantar nerve does not. It runs obliquely across the sole between flexor digitorum brevis and quadratus plantae, reaches the base of the fifth metatarsal, and divides into a superficial branch for the little toe and the outer half of the fourth, and a deep branch that curves back medially with the plantar arch to reach the interossei and adductor hallucis. Its very first branch dives sideways between two muscles near the heel and is the one part of it with a named compression point.
